INTERACTION OF TOBACCO ABUSE WITH OTHER CONVENTIONAL RISK FACTORS OF CARDIOVASCULAR RISK - SYNERGISTIC IMPACT OR AN INDEPENDENT MENACE?

Objectives: To determine the prevalence, patterns and behavioural attributes of tobacco abuse in patients acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Furthermore, to assess interaction with other conventional risk factors cardiovascular disease (CVD). Methodology: This observational study included 230 consecutive ACS. Data was collected regarding total duration extent consumption, “tobacco addiction” various related it. Risk profile acquired for hypertension, diabetes, obesity, family history premature CVD dyslipidemia. Odds ratios (OR) 95% confidence intervals (CI) these were calculated abusers compared non-abusers. Results: Among population, 63(27.4%) active users. Urban residents had lesser odds being non-urban (0.49, [0.27 – 0.89]). Tobacco a lower prevalence hypertension non-abusers (0.44 [0.24 0.81]). A similar trend observed obesity dyslipidemia, however, differences could not reach significance thresholds. Cigarette smoking commonest mode consumption (90.5%). “Tobacco be attributed 84.1% abusers. Most (82.5%) willing give up 63.3% already made attempts at quitting. Conclusion: About one-third ACS majority addicts. independently implicated as factor patients. inversely translating into sub-multiplicative / additive impact factor.
